In August 2018, 5 liters of water samples were taken daily for 6 days from the influent and effluent water of the treatment plants that were treated 1.5 million population inhabited in Seyhan and Yüreğir districts of Adana province. It has been revealed that 1 million to 6.5 million microplastics particles are entered into the treatment facilities daily and 73% to 79% of these treated. As a result of the study, attention was paid to the microplastic pollution of household wastewater, which is an important source of microplastic pollution. The results of the study were published in the international scientific journal Environmental Monitoring and Assessment.
